Electricity produced in Pakistan is from three main sources.

1). Hydal
2). Thermal (Gas/Steam/Furnace Oil)
3). Nuclear

There are four major power producers in country which include Water & Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC).

Below is the break-up of the installed capacity of each of these power producers (as of June-2008).

Hydal Electricity generated by WAPDA varies between two extremities i.e. bewteen minimum of 2414 MW and maximum of 6761 MW depending upon the river flow through the whole year.

Total Power Generation Capacity of Pakistan (including all sources) is 19855 MW and the electricity demand (as of today 20-04-2010) is 14500 MW and PEPCO is merely generating 10000 MW.

So it is obvious that these 15-20 hrs power shutdowns in most parts of the country are not because of the lack of generation capacity but only because of IMF / World bank policies imposed on our corrupt leader. The Power Generation companies are not buying Furnace Oil from PSO by saying they dont have money to do that but we are all paying for Electricity that is generated from Furnace Oil. This is the reason that top refineires like PRL are operating at 40% capacities. IMF / World bank has imposed to reduece budget deficit by importing less crude oil. But due to this fact all our industries are under severe crisis. None of our political party who are in Assembly are ready to speak on it because every one is blessed by US / IMF / WORLD Bank whether it PPP, PML , MQM , ANP or JUI

Things in Pakistan can change but they will change only once we have Govt which does not  (take dictation) work on action of US.

Israel offered nukes to SA apartheid

Mon, 24 May 2010 04:51:35 GMT

A general view of Israel's nuclear plant at Dimona in the Negev desert
Declassified documents cast new light on Israel's nuclear arsenals, revealing an offer by Israel to provide South Africa's apartheid regime with nuclear arms.

In an article published on Sunday, UK-based daily The Guardian explained how South African officials asked for nuclear warheads and Tel Aviv promised to sell them to the apartheid regime.

According to the report, in 1975, then South African Defense Minister Pieter Willem Botha held a clandestine meeting with Israeli President Shimon Peres, who served as Israel's defense minister at the time.

A secret military cooperation agreement was signed at the meeting, during which Botha reportedly requested nuclear weapons and Peres offered three warhead versions for sale.

The report contains "the first documentary evidence" of Israel's possession of nuclear weapons, said the daily which also published a photo showing the signatures of Peres and Botha on the 1975 military agreement.

The revelations are further backed by South African documents uncovered by American academic Sasha Polakow-Suransky for his book titled The Unspoken Alliance: Israel's secret alliance with apartheid South Africa.

The documents confirm accounts by Dieter Gerhardt, a South African naval commander jailed in 1984 for spying for the Soviet Union. Gerhardt, upon his release and the collapse of the Apartheid Regime, said that Israel offered eight Jericho ballistic missiles armed with "special warheads" to South Africa.

The Guardian report said that financial considerations prevented Botha from going through with the deal.

Despite Tel Aviv's decades-long policy of ambiguity regarding its nuclear activity, Israel is generally deemed to be the sole wielder of nuclear arms in the Middle East region, with military experts estimating the regime to possess up to 300 warheads.

Australia expels Israeli diplomat
Mon, 24 May 2010 03:09:06 GMT

Assassinated Hamas commander, Mahmoud al-Mabhouh
The federal government of Australia says it has ordered the expulsion of an Israeli diplomat over fraudulent use of Australian passports by Israel to assassinate a Hamas official.

Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith said on Monday that investigations had led to concrete evidence that Israeli intelligence services were behind the forgery of four Australian passports used in the murder of senior Hamas commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai back in January.

"These investigations and advice have left the government in no doubt that Israel was responsible for the abuse and counterfeiting of these passports," Reuters quoted Smith as telling the country's parliament.

"No government can tolerate the abuse of its passports," he added, explaining further that this is not what Canberra expects from Tel Aviv with which it has had "such a close, friendly and supportive relationship."

The Australian foreign minister said the government had asked that "a member of Israel's Australian embassy in Canberra be withdrawn within a week" without disclosing the individual's identity.

Al-Mabhouh was killed on January 19 in a hotel room by a hit squad of at least 11 people carrying forged international passport, Dubai authorities have indicated.

Facebook Considers Censoring Content in Pakistan

Facebook said Thursday it may consider making content that is considered objectionable by Pakistan inaccessible to users in the country.

"We are analyzing the situation and the legal considerations, and will take appropriate action, which may include making this content inaccessible to users in Pakistan," Facebook said in an e-mailed statement.

A Pakistani court ordered on Wednesday that Facebook should be blocked because of a page inviting people to draw caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed.

Protestors took to the streets in Pakistan on Wednesday to protest against the Facebook page.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the country's telecommunications regulator, said on Thursday that it was also blocking YouTube because of its "sacrilegious" content, after trying all possible avenues to get the two sites to remove material it considered derogatory.

Though Facebook said it would consider making the content inaccessible in Pakistan, it has reservations.

"We are very disappointed with the Pakistani Courts' decision to block Facebook without warning, and suspect our users there feel the same way," Facebook said in the statement.

YouTube did not respond to a request for comment.

While some kinds of comments and content, such as criticism of a certain culture, country, religion, lifestyle, or political ideology may be upsetting for someone, that alone is not a reason to remove the discussion, Facebook said.

Facebook said that when dealing with user-generated content on global Web sites, there are occasions where content that is illegal in one country is not, or may even be protected, in another.

Most companies approach this issue by preventing certain content from being shown to users in the countries where it is illegal and that is Facebook's approach as well, it added.

The PTA said earlier on Thursday that it would welcome the authorities at Facebook and YouTube to contact the PTA for resolving the issue to ensure religious harmony and respect.

The Facebook page that triggered Pakistan's anger increased the number of fans on Thursday to about 88,000. The page is called "Everybody draw Mohammed Day!" and features a number of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed.

US cartoonist disavows 'Draw Mohammad' Facebook page

WASHINGTON: An American cartoonist whose work inspired the controversial "Everybody Draw Mohammad Page" on Facebook has condemned the effort and issued an apology to Muslims.

Molly Norris, of Seattle, drew a cartoon in April to protest the decision by the US television channel Comedy Central to cancel an episode of the popular show "South Park" over its depiction of the Prophet Mohammad in a bear suit.

In her cartoon, Norris satirically proposed May 20 as an "Everybody Draw Mohammad Day." An "Everybody Draw Mohammad Day" page quickly turned up on Facebook but Norris, writing on her website at mollynorris.com, said she had nothing to do with it.

"I did NOT 'declare' May 20 to be "Everybody Draw Mohammad Day," she said, adding that her idea was satire but "was taken seriously, hijacked and made viral."

"I never started a Facebook page; I never set up any place for people to send drawings to and I never received any drawings," she said.

"The vitriol this 'day' has brought out, of people who only want to draw obscene images, is offensive to Muslims who did nothing to endanger our right to expression in the first place," she said.

"I apologize to people of Muslim faith and ask that this 'day' be called off," she said.

The "Draw Mohammad" page has led to Facebook being blocked in Pakistan and sparked angry protests and condemnation from the foreign ministry, which denounced the "publication of blasphemous caricatures of our holy prophet."

The Facebook page on Tuesday had drawn over 89,000 fans — and a slew of crude photo-shopped pictures and caricatures.

Among the dozens of pictures and drawings submitted to the Facebook page are depictions of a man in Arab garb engaged in sexual acts, blowing things up or portrayed as a pig, an animal considered unclean by Muslims.

The purported creator of the Facebook page said meanwhile that he started it to stand up for "freedom of expression." "We didn't really know that this would expand so extremely," the man, who would be identified only as "Andy," said in a voice-only interview with the US television channel MSNBC.

"We know that the fight for freedom of expression, freedom of speech can't be stopped by a country like Pakistan censoring the Internet," he added.

The Facebook page itself calls for "creative and funny depictions of Mohammad" and says "there is no need to make hateful and totally respectless depiction of him."

"We are not trying to slander the average Muslim, it's not a Muslim/Islam hatepage," the page says. "We simply want to show the extremists that threaten to harm people because of their Mohammed depictions, that we're not afraid of them.

"That they can't take away our right to freedom of speech by trying to scare us to silence," it says.

There was no immediate reply to a message sent by AFP to "Andy" at an email address provided on the Facebook page.

Meanwhile, a rival Facebook page called "Against 'Everbody Draw Mohammad Day" started to oppose the caricature page had drawn some 100,000 fans.—AFP
